Salon du 2 Roues in Lyon 2025: An event in full throttle!

Salon du 2 Roues à Lyon 2025 : Une édition à plein gaz !

From February 13 to 16, 2025, Lyon will host the Salon du 2 Roues, the leading event for motorcycle and two-wheel enthusiasts in France. Held at Eurexpo, this annual gathering promises an immersive experience for amateurs, professionals, and curious visitors alike.

With an expansive area of over 150,000 m², the 2025 edition is set to be a must-attend event to discover the latest innovations, engage with industry experts, and fully embrace your passion.

A look back at the 2024 edition: A resounding success

The previous edition attracted a record-breaking audience with over 80,000 visitors across four days. Exhibitors from all over the world represented more than 700 brands, showcasing a diverse range of offerings: vintage motorcycles, customization, motocross, and much more.

Highlights included spectacular demonstrations like MX Indoor, track races, and rare motorcycle exhibitions. This success reflects the growing interest in the two-wheel industry, where technological innovation and passion converge.

For 2025, the Salon aims to surpass these achievements by offering an even richer and more diverse program.

Themes for 2025: Innovation and experience at the core

The 2025 edition will emphasize several key areas:

  • Alternative energies: As the automotive sector pivots toward eco-friendly solutions, two-wheelers are following suit. Visitors will discover electric prototypes, innovations in alternative fuels, and discussions about the future of sustainable mobility.
  • Craftsmanship and personalization: Customized motorcycles take center stage, with artisans showcasing their unique creations, reflecting exceptional expertise and creativity.
  • Shows and performances: The much-anticipated return of the RFX MX Indoor will captivate audiences. This indoor motocross spectacle gathers top riders for high-octane stunts. Additional shows, such as Show Trial and the Top Clef competition, promise to delight visitors of all ages.
  • Practical trials: Visitors can test the latest models on specially designed tracks, whether they’re fans of asphalt roads or rugged terrains.

Market context: A two-wheel industry in transformation

The two-wheel market in France faces challenges in 2024, shaped by economic and climatic factors. As the sector struggles to regain its pre-Covid momentum, the first-half figures reveal a general decline in registrations across all segments.

A general decline in registrations

New and second-hand two-wheel registrations fell by 5.3% and 4.2%, respectively, compared to the first half of 2023. Specifically, 146,041 new units were registered, compared to 154,271 the previous year, while the used market reached 436,319 units.

This drop is partly attributed to unfavorable weather conditions: Spring 2024, marked by excessive rainfall and low sunlight, dampened sales during what is traditionally the season’s kickoff.

The rise of larger cylinders and trails

Despite these decreases, some segments show notable resilience. Larger cylinders (>400cc) recorded positive growth, particularly trails (+18.7% new and +15.8% used), touring bikes, and sports models.

This renewed interest in versatile and high-performance models reflects changing user preferences, especially among those seeking bikes suited for long-distance travel or specific purposes.

Electric struggles to take off

While electrification is transforming the automotive industry, the two-wheel electric segment shows signs of slowdown, with a 14.8% drop in registrations (new and used combined). This trend is amplified by the withdrawal of free-floating electric scooter fleets. However, regions like Occitanie and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes display positive signals in the second-hand electric moped market.

A shortfall in mopeds

Mopeds continue to suffer from an imbalance between supply and demand, particularly among young riders (ages 14–17). With a 16.6% decrease in new sales and a 9.4% drop in used sales, this segment highlights the structural limitations of a market where product innovation remains scarce.

Teleworking and flagship models

Teleworking, which reduces users’ average mileage, also dampens the renewal of two-wheelers. Moreover, the absence of significant launches in 2024, compared to the previous year’s successes (e.g., Honda Hornet, BMW 1300), contributed to the decline in new motorcycle sales.

Addressing market challenges

The Salon du 2 Roues 2025 serves as a vital platform to meet market expectations. In a slowing context, brands must innovate, highlight products tailored to new demands (sustainability, performance, design), and adopt impactful communication strategies.
